Is the bike the expensive part of owning a Peloton? Only in year one. The Cross Training Bike lists at $1,695 and the Cross Training Bike+ at $2,695, but the $49.99-a-month All-Access membership adds about $1,800 over three years, so a new Bike costs roughly $3,500 to own for 36 months and a Bike+ about $4,500. The cheapest legitimate route, Peloton’s App+ on a budget bike, comes in near $1,550 for the same stretch.
That spread means the useful question is not which bike to buy. It is which of six routes into the same instructors fits how confident you are that you will still be riding in 2029. The figures below are Peloton’s posted US prices from early November 2026, the best planning numbers available for 2027. Peloton has not announced any hardware or membership price change for next year.
Six ways in, priced over 36 months
Every row assumes three years of riding, because that is roughly when the membership overtakes the hardware on a new Bike. Cost per ride assumes three rides a week, or 468 rides in all. Assembly and accessories are left out unless the route requires them.
| Route | Up front | Monthly after that | 3-year total | Per ride |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| App+ with a budget bike (Schwinn IC4 on sale) | About $500 | $28.99 | About $1,545 | $3.30 |
| Refurbished Original Bike | $1,145 | $49.99 | About $2,945 | $6.29 |
| Refurbished Original Bike+ | $1,395 | $49.99 | About $3,195 | $6.83 |
| New Cross Training Bike | $1,695 | $49.99 | About $3,495 | $7.47 |
| New Cross Training Bike+ | $2,695 | $49.99 | About $4,495 | $9.60 |
| Rent Original Bike+ (membership included) | $150 assembly | $124.99 | About $4,650 | $9.94 |
Two things jump out. Renting for the full three years is the most expensive way to ride a Peloton, more than buying a brand-new Bike+. And the gap between a refurbished Original Bike and a new Cross Training Bike is only $550 over three years, because the membership, identical on both, swamps the hardware difference.
Buying new: the $1,695 bike and its $1,800 shadow
Peloton replaced its whole lineup in October 2025 with the Cross Training series and raised prices at the same time: the base Bike went from $1,445 to $1,695 and the Bike+ from $2,495 to $2,695. The All-Access membership rose the same month, from $44 to $49.99, its first increase since 2022. Delivery is free if you assemble the bike yourself, which Peloton estimates takes about 45 minutes. Expert assembly costs $150.
Cross Training Bike
- List price: $1,695
- Financing: about $141 a month for 12 months at 0% APR, if you qualify
- Ultimate Package with shoes, mats, water bottle and three sets of dumbbells: $2,190
- Best for: riders who mostly want cycling classes
Cross Training Bike+
- List price: $2,695
- Financing: about $225 a month for 12 months at 0% APR, if you qualify
- Adds a swiveling screen and a camera that Peloton IQ uses to track strength workouts
- Best for: households that will use the screen off the bike for strength and yoga
The extra $1,000 for the Plus buys features that matter only if you will step off the saddle. Engadget’s August 2026 review praised the camera-based tracking but still called the price a premium. If cycling is the point, the base Bike rides the same classes.
Financing deserves a careful read. Affirm offers 0% or 4.99% APR depending on credit, terms run 12 months, and a down payment may be required. The membership is billed separately from the first month, so a financed Bike really costs about $191 a month for the first year, not $141. New Cross Training bikes come with a 30-day home trial for first-time buyers in the contiguous US, though return fees apply.
Refurbished Original Bikes save $550, but you cannot send one back
Peloton still sells the previous-generation Original Series as certified refurbished units: the Bike from $1,145 and the Bike+ at $1,395, down from $1,995 before a May 2026 cut. Both stream the same cycling library and need the same All-Access membership. Peloton’s product pages list a 12-month limited warranty on parts and labor, and the refurbished listing says the frame is covered for five years.
The catch is on the return policy. Refurbished bikes are not eligible for the 30-day trial, and Peloton states that all sales are final once the bike is delivered. You can cancel before delivery, not after. That makes refurbished the right call for someone who has already ridden a Peloton at a friend’s house or a hotel gym and knows the habit sticks, and the wrong call for a first-timer hoping to try it.
A refurbished Bike+ is also the one Peloton product that has been cheaper on Amazon than on Peloton’s own site: it sold for $995 during Amazon’s October 2026 Prime Big Deal Days, according to the tracking site Peloton Buddy.
Renting makes sense for exactly one kind of rider
Peloton rents the Original Bike+ for $124.99 a month with the membership included, plus a required $150 expert assembly. You can cancel any time and Peloton picks the bike up free. A pair of cycling shoes, which Peloton values at $125, comes with it.
Subtract the $49.99 membership and you are paying $75 a month for the hardware. Over 12 months that is $900 for a bike you give back; buying a refurbished Bike+ outright costs $1,395. Renting is therefore insurance against quitting, and it is reasonably priced insurance only for the first few months. The rider it suits is the one who honestly does not know whether the habit will last past February.
The better trick is to rent briefly and buy out. In a hypothetical example, a rider who rents for two months pays $250 in rent and $150 for assembly, buys the bike for $1,245, then pays $49.99 a month for the remaining 34 months. The three-year total is about $3,345, only $150 more than buying the refurbished Bike+ on day one, with a real trial included.
Peloton’s rental buyout schedule, by length of rental
| Months rented | Original Bike buyout | Original Bike+ buyout |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 3 | $995 | $1,245 |
| 3 to 6 | $895 | $1,195 |
| 6 to 12 | $795 | $995 |
| 12 to 24 | $695 | $895 |
| 24 to 36 | $495 | $795 |
| Over 36 | $495 | $695 |
App+ and a $500 bike: the cheapest route, minus the integration
Peloton sells two app tiers to people without its hardware. App One costs $15.99 a month and App+ $28.99, after an October 2025 increase. The difference matters for cyclists: Peloton’s own FAQ says App One members can take only three cardio equipment classes a month, which rules it out for anyone buying a bike to ride. App+ has no cap and includes Peloton Strength+. Peloton says its cardio classes are meant to be taken on any stationary bike.
The popular pairing is the Schwinn IC4, which regularly sells for about $500 at Best Buy and Amazon and whose dual-sided pedals take clip-in cleats or sneakers. Three years of App+ adds about $1,045, for a total near $1,545. That is less than half the cost of a new Peloton Bike over the same period.
What you give up is the tight fit. Peloton’s app FAQ confirms Bluetooth connections for some third-party treadmills and rowers but makes no such promise for outside bikes, so expect your cadence and output to live in a separate app, and expect to turn the resistance knob to match the instructor’s cues by feel. Plenty of riders never miss the leaderboard. Competitive types usually do.
Used from a neighbor: add $95 before the first ride
Secondhand Pelotons are easy to find, and Peloton runs its own resale marketplace. Since 2024, though, the company charges a $95 used equipment activation fee when a new subscriber activates All-Access on a bike bought secondhand. Before you hand over cash, run through this list:
- Confirm the seller has removed the bike from their account, or the membership will not transfer to you.
- Add $95 for activation and $1,800 for three years of All-Access to the asking price before comparing it with a refurbished unit at $1,145.
- Check whether it is an Original Series or Cross Training model, and ask for the purchase date; any warranty is probably gone.
- Budget for moving it. The bike is heavy enough that most buyers need a second person and a truck or van.
- Bring shoes with Delta-compatible cleats for the test ride, since the pedals require them.
Once you add those costs, a used bike has to sell well under $1,000 to beat a refurbished unit that ships with a warranty.
Black Friday, Memorial Day and the offer-match window
Almost nobody needs to pay list price. Peloton Buddy’s price history shows the base Bike selling for $1,395 on Black Friday 2025 and as low as $1,295 during the winter and Memorial Day sales of 2026. The Bike+ dipped to $1,795 at New Year’s and Memorial Day. Amazon matched those lows in October 2026, at $1,295 and $1,795.
For the 2026 holidays, Peloton is running an offer match: buy a bike between November 1 and November 11, 2026, and if a better Peloton offer appears on its site, you can claim the difference until November 30. Financing terms are excluded. Outside that window, Peloton has offered price matches on Bike and Bike+ purchases made within the previous 30 days. Whatever you pay for the hardware, the membership stays at $49.99 for 2027 unless Peloton announces otherwise, and its last two increases landed in April 2022 and October 2025.
Peloton price questions the shop page leaves out
Can my whole household share one All-Access membership?
Yes. All-Access is tied to the equipment, and everyone in the home can ride under a separate profile, so a couple splits the $49.99 monthly fee. The App One and App+ memberships are different: Peloton allows one profile per app membership.
Do I need special shoes for a Peloton bike?
Yes. Peloton bikes use pedals that take Delta-compatible cleats, so sneakers will not clip in. The Ultimate Package and the rental program include a pair of cycling shoes, and Peloton values the rental pair at $125. Third-party Delta-compatible shoes also work.
Does a Peloton bike work without a membership?
It will power on, but the instructor-led classes, metrics history and programs that make up the Peloton experience require All-Access. Peloton has historically offered a basic free-ride mode without a membership; confirm current features with Peloton before buying a bike you plan to use that way.
Is there a contract on the Peloton app cost or All-Access?
No long-term contract is required. Both All-Access and the app memberships bill monthly and can be canceled. Financing through Affirm is a separate loan that you still owe if you cancel the membership, and the rental program can also be canceled at any time.

The short version
If you have never ridden a Peloton, rent the Bike+ for a month or two and buy it out once you know you will keep going; it costs about $150 more over three years than buying blind, and it is the only route with a real exit. If you already know the habit sticks, a refurbished Original Bike at $1,145 delivers the same classes for $550 less than a new one. Buy the Cross Training Bike+ only if the screen will earn its keep off the saddle. And if the $49.99 membership is what makes you hesitate, App+ on a $500 bike gets you the instructors for about $1,545 over three years, which is the number every other option has to justify.
Pricing method: prices were researched in November 2026 for 2027 planning and may change. Hardware, rental, assembly, financing and app prices come from Peloton’s US website; sale history comes from Peloton Buddy; the Schwinn IC4 price reflects recent retailer sales. Peloton had not announced 2027 price changes when this was written. Three-year totals are our estimates and exclude sales tax. See our disclaimer.
