The number most people search for is easy to find: 7 Brew’s 2026 franchise disclosure puts the cost of opening one drive-thru stand at $940,500 to $2,283,500, with a $35,000 franchise fee. The number that matters more is zero, because 7 Brew’s own support page says it is not accepting new franchise applications or expressions of interest.
That does not make the cost figures useless. They tell you what the operators who did get in are paying, what a future opening might look like if the window reopens in 2027, and how the brand stacks up against drive-thru coffee chains that will actually sell you a territory today.
What one 510-square-foot stand costs to build
A 7 Brew is a small modular building, about 510 square feet, dropped on an outparcel of roughly 8,000 to 50,000 square feet with drive-thru lanes wrapped around it. There is no lobby and no seating, so the money goes into dirt, concrete and equipment rather than dining rooms. Per-stand line items, as compiled from the disclosure by PeerSense:
| Line item | Low | High |
|---|---|---|
| Site development (grading, paving, utilities, lanes) | $200,000 | $800,000 |
| Modular building and build-out | $318,500 | $600,000 |
| Equipment, fixtures and furniture | $185,000 | $250,000 |
| Architecture and engineering | $10,000 | $60,000 |
| Signage | $10,000 | $40,000 |
| Point-of-sale systems | $15,000 | $25,000 |
| Opening inventory, supplies and uniforms | $15,000 | $50,000 |
| Grand-opening marketing | $25,000 | $50,000 |
| Training travel and living costs | $10,000 | $75,000 |
| Permits, insurance, deposits, utilities setup | About $10,500 | About $53,000 |
| Additional funds for the first three months | $25,000 | $75,000 |
Site development is the swing line. A flat, already-serviced pad near a highway exit lands near the low end; a lot that needs new curb cuts, a stormwater system and a long utility run can eat $800,000 before the building arrives. Franchisee Brew Crew Holdings has told Food On Demand that the modular building alone runs $310,000 to $600,000 before freight and installation.
You would be signing for ten stands, not one
The 2026 investment range assumes a 10-stand development commitment, which tells you who 7 Brew has been selling to: multi-unit operators with institutional money, not a couple cashing out a 401(k). The fee structure reflects that, at $35,000 for the first stand and $25,000 for each one after, per the disclosure summary published by Franchise Feast.
- Franchise fees for 10 stands: $35,000 + (9 x $25,000) = $260,000.
- Build cost for 10 stands: roughly $9 million to $22 million spread over the development schedule, before land.
- Financial qualifications: franchise databases report net worth of about $1 million to $1.5 million and liquid assets of $300,000 to $750,000. These figures are reported by third parties, not confirmed by 7 Brew, and big groups typically clear them by a wide margin.
The groups that won territories look the part. Brew Crew Holdings ran 130 stands and $273 million in revenue at the end of 2025, backed by a $260 million credit facility from Fifth Third Bank. Flynn Group signed a 160-unit deal, and Franchise Equity Partners bought a majority stake in 7 Crew, the second-largest franchisee. When the development calendar is spoken for by operators like these, there is little room left for a newcomer.
The royalty that rises as the line gets longer
Most franchises charge one flat royalty. 7 Brew’s climbs with weekly sales, as Brew Crew described it to Food On Demand:
| Weekly gross sales | Royalty rate | Roughly equals yearly sales of |
|---|---|---|
| Under $20,000 | 4.5% | Under about $1.04 million |
| $20,000 to $25,000 | 5.5% | About $1.04 to $1.3 million |
| Over $25,000 | 7% | Over about $1.3 million |
Hypothetical example, assuming the week’s rate applies to all of that week’s sales and steady weekly volume; confirm the exact mechanics in the current disclosure. Here is what the royalty and the 2% brand fund take at three sales levels:
| Stand’s yearly sales | Weekly average | Royalty | Brand fund (2%) | Total to franchisor |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $1.0 million (weak site) | About $19,200 | $45,000 (4.5%) | $20,000 | $65,000 |
| $1.8 million (solid site) | About $34,600 | $126,000 (7%) | $36,000 | $162,000 |
| $2.6 million (system average) | $50,000 | $182,000 (7%) | $52,000 | $234,000 |
The design cushions a slow opener and takes a bigger cut once a stand is humming. For a strong store, plan on about 9% of sales leaving before you pay a single barista.
Payback math on a $2.6 million stand
7 Brew reported average unit volume above $2.6 million for 2025, according to Restaurant Dive, up from roughly $1.9 million the year before for Brew Crew’s franchised stores. The disclosure’s sales data shows a wide spread: the top franchised stand reported about $3.98 million in 2024 and the lowest about $889,000.
7 Brew does not publish store-level profit, so borrow a benchmark. Dutch Bros, the closest public comparison, reported a 28.9% company-operated shop contribution margin for 2025, and those shops pay no royalty. The scenarios below are hypothetical illustrations, not projections or reported results.
- Strong case: $2.6 million in sales at about 20% after royalty and brand fund (28.9% minus roughly 9%) = about $520,000 a year. On a $1.6 million build, simple payback is a little over three years.
- Middle case: same sales at 15% = $390,000 a year, or about four years.
- Weak case: $1.6 million in sales at 15% = $240,000 a year, or close to seven years.
All three figures come before debt service, overhead for a multi-unit office, depreciation and taxes, and none includes land. They also show why location is everything: the gap between the strong and weak case is not menu or staffing, it is how many cars a site can stack and serve between 6 and 10 a.m.
7 Brew vs Dutch Bros, Starbucks and the chains still selling
Searchers comparing 7 Brew with Dutch Bros and Starbucks run into the same wall twice. Dutch Bros says it no longer offers franchises; its 325 franchised shops at the end of 2025 are legacy operators. Starbucks does not franchise in the US at all and grows through company stores and licensed counters in places like airports and grocery stores. Here is the field as of October 2026:
| Brand | Taking new franchisees? | Total investment | Franchise fee | Royalty + marketing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 Brew | No (applications closed) | $940,500 to $2,283,500 | $35,000; $25,000 for later stands | 4.5% to 7% + 2% |
| Dutch Bros | No (company-owned growth) | Not offered | Not offered | Not offered |
| Starbucks | No US franchises | Not offered | Not offered | Not offered |
| Scooter’s Coffee | Yes | $658,898 to $1,345,750 | $40,000 | 6% + 2% of net sales |
| Ziggi’s Coffee | Yes | $586,830 to $2,093,361 | $40,000 | 6% + 1% |
| Dunkin’ | Yes | $142,000 to $1,832,500 | $40,000 to $90,000 | 5.9% + 5% |
| BIGGBY Coffee | Yes | $242,200 to $973,000 | $20,000 | 6% + marketing fee |
Two things stand out. 7 Brew’s build cost is in the same band as Scooter’s and Ziggi’s freestanding drive-thrus, so the premium is not in the building. The premium is in volume: Dutch Bros averaged about $2.1 million per shop in 2025, and 7 Brew says it beat that. Whether a rival brand can reach those numbers in your market is the question to put to its existing franchisees before you sign anything.
Ways in while the application window is shut
- Buy a resale. Stands do change hands between operators. Brew Crew sold 26 Tennessee stands to Southern Brew in January 2026. A transfer still needs franchisor approval and usually a transfer fee, and the asking price is based on cash flow, not build cost.
- Join a big franchisee as an operator. Large groups hire area and district managers, and some offer equity or profit-sharing to proven leaders. It is the realistic path for someone with restaurant experience and less capital.
- Invest alongside a private equity backer. At least three 7 Brew franchise groups took private equity money within a year. Those funds are generally limited to accredited investors.
- Watch the next disclosure. The 2026 document was issued in May 2026. Check 7 Brew’s support page and the next annual disclosure for any change in status.
What 2027 is likely to bring
As of October 2026, 7 Brew had not announced any 2027 changes to its fees, royalty tiers or investment range, and it had not said when applications might reopen. The brand opened its 777th stand in June 2026, passed 800 by September, and was projecting more than 1,000 by the end of the year, with 437 franchised openings planned for 2026. It also bid more than $143 million for 73 closed Salad and Go sites in Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma and Nevada, outbidding Dutch Bros.
For a would-be owner that adds up to two things. Expect any 2027 disclosure to show similar or slightly higher build costs, since construction and equipment prices have not been falling. And expect good sites to get scarcer: when the franchisor itself is paying close to $2 million a site on average to lock up real estate, the cheap pad near the interstate is mostly gone.
Before you spend money on any drive-thru coffee franchise
- Get the current disclosure document and read Items 5, 6, 7, 19 and 20 (fees, ongoing costs, investment, sales data and openings or closings).
- Call at least five existing franchisees, including some who opened in the last two years.
- Price a real site with a local civil engineer before trusting the low end of any range.
- Model sales at the bottom quartile, not the average, and check whether you can survive it.
- Have a franchise attorney and a CPA review the agreement and your financing.
This is general cost information, not investment or legal advice. Figures vary by site, market and disclosure year.
7 Brew franchise questions
Who owns 7 Brew?
7 Brew was founded in Rogers, Arkansas, in 2017 and is headquartered in Springdale, Arkansas. Blackstone made a growth equity investment in the company in 2024. Most stands are run by franchise groups, several of them backed by private equity.
How long is a 7 Brew franchise agreement?
Franchise databases summarizing the disclosure list a 15-year term. Renewal conditions, transfer rules and any fees are in the franchise agreement itself, so review them with a franchise attorney.
Can you buy land and lease it to 7 Brew instead?
Yes, that is a separate investment. Many 7 Brew stands sit on ground-leased outparcels, and net-lease brokers market them to real estate investors. You collect rent from the operator rather than coffee profits, and the deal depends on the tenant’s credit and lease terms.
How many employees does a 7 Brew stand need?
Stands run large crews for their size. Brew Crew described about a dozen employees working one morning rush at a Virginia stand, with runners taking orders car by car to keep both lanes moving.
What are the 7 Brew franchise requirements if applications reopen?
Expect a multi-unit commitment and substantial capital. The 2026 investment range assumes 10 stands, and third-party databases report net worth around $1 million to $1.5 million and liquidity of $300,000 to $750,000 per agreement. Confirm with the current disclosure document.
